How to Care for and Store a Bespoke Suit in Thailand's Humidity

Let the suit air out before storing it

After wearing a suit, hang it in an open, ventilated space for at least 24 hours before returning it to a closet. This allows body heat and any absorbed moisture to fully dissipate — skipping this step in a humid climate is one of the fastest ways to encourage mildew or a lingering odor.

Avoid plastic garment bags for long-term storage

Plastic dry-cleaner bags trap moisture against the fabric — exactly the wrong environment in a humid climate. Use breathable fabric garment bags instead, which protect against dust while still allowing air circulation.

Don't over-clean

Dry cleaning is effective but gradually breaks down fabric fibers over repeated cycles. Spot-clean minor marks and air out the suit between wears rather than dry cleaning after every single use — reserve full cleaning for when it's genuinely needed.

Use a proper wooden or shaped hanger

A suit hung on a wire or slim plastic hanger loses its shoulder shape over time. A wooden hanger shaped to mimic the shoulder line helps the garment hold its structure — particularly important in humidity, where fabric can relax and lose shape more easily when damp.

Rotate, don't repeat

Wearing the same suit on consecutive days doesn't give it time to fully dry out and recover its shape — a real risk in a humid climate. Rotating between at least two suits extends the life of both significantly.

Watch for signs of moisture damage early

A faint musty smell or slight fabric stiffness are early warning signs of trapped moisture — address these immediately with airing and, if needed, professional cleaning, rather than waiting for visible mildew to appear.
